Volunteer Work

Tutor

Friendship House

Aug 2012 – Dec 2012

Working at the Friendship House was one of the best volunteer experiences I have had. Since I worked there a couple months I got to know the kids very well. They are all so eager and excited to use their imaginations and I tried to make homework fun for them. They way the children saw the world was eye opening and fun and really made me smile every day I worked there. They were so loving and willing to share new ideas, it was refreshing to work with kids who were not so harsh and critical of the world they lived in, and it felt amazing to give back to the community by being a good mentor and leader for our future society

Contractor

Habitat for Humanity

April 2015

I learned a lot about my self and handy work with Habitat for Humanity. I had the privilege to travel cross country to North Carolina and help rebuild shop. It was here, hammer in my hand, that I learned woodwork as we rebuilt a brand new store to be used as a Habitat resale store. I also had the pleasure of exploring the habitat houses in the area to learn different building techniques, and even sit down and talk with a tenant who was so thankful for all the volunteer work. It felt amazing to not only learn, but to give back to the those who were in need and see all the hard work come to life. Seeing how thankful the tenants were, made me realize how much many people take for granted. It is humbling to know the work I did made a difference.

Trainer

TAPS No Kill Shelter

Aug 2011 – Dec 2011

After completing a certification class I have the honor of working and training dogs to receive their service badge. We ran numerous exercise trainings to help the dogs learn basic skills, like opening and closing the fridge, stopping at crosswalks, to more advanced skills such as how to react during medical emergencies. The fact the shelter adopts dogs off the street and has such high hopes to turn them into necessary service animals is astonishing. I have always loved animals, they always sprinkle happiness wherever they go and I had so much fun learning to train them.
